Taormina’s hidden gems- perfect places for your symbolic wedding ceremony
Getting married in Taormina is and has been a dream of many. We get it! It is a perfect Italian wedding destination. Dramatic views of Etna and Mazzaro Bay, tiny streets with ceramic shops and some of the most luxurious hotels and properties in Sicily. Taormina is a gem. Apart from two Belmond hotels Timeo and Villa Sant’andrea, the newest addition is San Domenico Palace by Four Seasons. Those three addresses definitely make the best wedding venues you could hope for in Sicily, Italy. Spectacular views, exquisite cuisine and Taormina’s vintage resort vibe are the epitome of La Dolce Vita.
Nonetheless, there are other fabulous places in and around Taormina where you can say your vows in the most amazing and unique setting. For example inside the Ancient Greek Theater. Or in the city park. Naturally there are rules to follow but as Wedding Planners based in Sicily we know exactly on what door to knock.
The only place where you can get legally married in Taormina is Palazzo Duchi di Santo Stefano, situated right by Porta Catania. It is a lovely gothic style palace with huge windows and red carpet inside. Civil ceremonies take place either inside on the first floor or in the courtyard of the palace, which is very comfortable as it has another entrance, a larger one where brides can walk through. Taormina’s town hall fees are amongst the highest in Sicily and you will need some to translate the ceremony (one of the services we offer).
Symbolic ceremonies can take place in theory anywhere. In practice you will need either a private space like a garden or a terrace of a hotel/apartment/villa or you will need an authorization if you would like to have your symbolic ceremony in a public space such as a beach or city park.
Taormina is probably one of very few places that offers the possibility to privatize a super important ancient history monument, The Greek Theatre. Just imagine inviting your guests to the ceremony at the Greek Theatre followed by dinner and reception at Belmond Hotel Timeo, literally next door. I don’t know about you, but I’m all in! The most exclusive event setting one could wish for.
